Happy Paw is cooperating with Veterinarians Without Borders to help homeless animals in Ukraine

Veterinarians Without Borders / Vétérinaires Sans Frontières - Canada (VWB / VSF) is a non-profit charity that has been addressing animal health and community ecosystem issues since 2005. The organization is based in Ottawa (Canada), but the team works around the world and carries out projects in many countries in Asia and Africa.

From day one of the full-scale war, VWB has supported Ukrainian shelters and animal protection organizations, sent veterinarians to a refugee camp in Poland, and provided humanitarian assistance to animals in Ukraine.

With the financial support of Veterinarians Without Borders (VWB / VSF), Happy Paw in April 2022 will organize the sterilization of stray cats and dogs from the shelters located in Zaporizhua, Poltava, Kryvyi Rih, Kropyvnytskyi, Sumy, Odesa.

These cities have been affected by the occupiers or are actively accepting refugee animals from hotspots. That is why the problem of controlling the population of homeless animals is very important for them, especially with the spring coming.

As of April 22, 178 animals have already been sterilized. Also, 118 carriers for animal transportation were purchased.

UPD: As of May 1, we managed to sterilize 712 stray animals for the whole month of April:

  • In Poltava (shelter Cat's House "Wet Noses") - 33 dogs, 120 cats
  • In Zaporozhye (shelter "Chance") - 42 dogs and 56 cats
  • In Kryvyi Rih (Best Friend Shelter) - 34 dogs and 91 cats
  • In Sumy (Society for the Protection of Animals) - 11 dogs and 35 cats
  • In Odessa (Animal SOS) - 17 dogs and 118 cats.
  • In Kropyvnytskyi (shelter Happy Dog) - 42 dogs, 113 cats.

Also in April, we purchased 204 carriers: 149 cat carriers and 55 metal dog cages, which were delivered to 21 shelters.

Our plans with VWB / VSF also include the purchase of building materials for the reconstruction of the Best Friend shelter (Makariv), which was destroyed by the Russian shelling. Repair works will begin once the situation in the region stabilizes and the area is safe for construction. In addition, medications and antiparasitics will be purchased for the dogs of the Best Friends shelter.

We will publish all reports on the work done on the website and on our social networks.

Happy Paw is a charitable foundation that has been supporting animals in shelters throughout Ukraine for 10 years. During the full-scale war, the foundation helped more than 120 shelters and 250 volunteers with food, medicine and other products for animals.
