The story of the shelter Basya and Bulya began 30 years ago when its owner Olga Volokushyna took in the first dog who was freezing on the street. Olga found the second dog in a passage; he was curled up from the cold, and no one except Olga was willing to help him.
These two dogs became Basya and Bulya, and their names eventually gave the shelter its name.
- The hardest part of the work is cleaning, feeding, paying the mortgage for the animal house that my husband and I built over 10 years — it's all difficult. And we also need a safe outdoor enclosure for the cats...
- What motivates me to continue working
It's hard to call it motivation. I see animals on the streets needing help, needing to be fed — I want to help. I just have to do it.
- Shelter expenses for animal care
For a day, cats and dogs need 10 kg of food — that's 300-400 UAH per day, and accordingly 9,000 - 12,000 UAH per month.
For medications and medical services, for example, in 2023, we spent 30,000 UAH because old dogs got sick.
To finish the construction of animal premises and finally tidy up the house and yard.
